Jeff Parker, a Loader Operator for Cadillac Asphalt Rawsonville, continued a 3rd-year long tradition in 2021, participating in St Baldrick’s Shave for the Brave event.

“I started doing this event three years ago when asked by an old high school friend. It was a great way to support and raise money for a great cause for those that are affected by cancer! Overall, in three years, with family, friends, coworkers, and our company we have raised over $15,700!!”

St Baldrick’s Foundation began in 1999, and has grown over the past 22 years to host hundreds of head-shaving events each year to raise money to fight childhood cancer. The idea was created by insurance brokers Tim Kenny, John Bender, and Enda McDonnel. Their first event, held on St Patrick’s Day in 2000, saw 19 heads shaved and $104,000 raised to fight childhood cancer. About 1 in 285 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer before they turn 20. More children are lost to cancer than any other disease in the United States, but research like that funded by St Baldrick’s and other organizations has helped cut the mortality rate for children drastically in the last few decades.

Jeff Parker set a $5,000 goal with the promise that if he met his goal by July 22, he would dye his hair rainbow for the week before the shave. As you can see in the pictures, he more than met his goal in time. Overall, Jeff beat his goal and raised $6,384 with his shave!
